The former CEC for Finance and Economic Planning for Garissa county was shot in the head last night at Kileleshwa area, Nairobi.
Idris Aden Muktar hardly left a mosque he had attended for evening prayer when suspected gunmen emerged and fired at him at a close range.
The badly injured victim was rushed to Nairobi hospital in a critical condition.
While confirming the horror incident, Nairobi Deputy Police boss Richard Kerich said investigations have been launched to establish the motive of the shooting, adding that the culprits did not steal anything from the victim.
"The victim is in hospital with injuries in the head. We don’t know the motive of the incident,” he said.
Speaking to this writer, the brother to the former CEC, Qeys Adam, said that doctors at the facility are struggling to remove bullet lodged in the victim's head.
"The doctors are looking for convenient ways of removing the lodged bullet in his head, and we are praying for successful procedure," he said.
