Mwilu was on Tuesday last week arrested and arraigned over alleged involvement in graft, following an approval from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji and later released on Sh5 million bond.

She is facing numerous charges revolving around forgery, tax evasion and receiving 12 million shillings from the troubled Imperial Bank which has since collapsed.

But in an interview on KBC English Service on Wednesday morning, Weda who doubles up as a High Court Advocate said that the case is weak as has been presented by the prosecution side and will collapse.

He added that nothing is implicating her in corruption crime, with the only thing coming out being her transactions with the bank which is not, according to the lawyer, sufficient to have the DCJ convicted.

‘’The case will be quashed because there is nothing to convict her for. Her only crime was the bank transactions, and there is nowhere where she is said to have pocketed any money and cannot, therefore, be penalised for graft,’’ said Weda.

He reiterated Mwilu’s case that the whole issue is political, saying that politicians from the background are most likely pushing the matter.

‘’Political undertones are very high in the case, and it seems that there has been a hunt for her and when they spotted this tiny issue they are trying to cling on it,’’ he added.

The case hearings have since been postponed until October.
