Nairobi is set to come to life for in the much-anticipated fight between Super Bantam Weight champion Fatuma Zarika and Mexico's Yamileth Mercado.
The World Champion, Fatuma, has been training in the United Kingdom courtesy of betting firm Sportpesa, in preparation to defend her title in the match.
December last year, Zarika beat Zambian Catherine Phiri by unanimous points, securing victory and defending her World Boxing Council (WBC) super-bantamweight title.
This will be her first fight with the Mercado, who is set to arrive on Tuesday, five days prior to the match, with Zarika remaining confident of a win, admitting having been closely watching her opponent.
“I don’t know her personally but I have watched her YouTube videos and I can tell she is a really good boxer,” Zarika said ahead of the match.
The fight will be held at Kenya International Convention Center in Nairobi on September 8.
“I have seen which areas of my boxing needs to improve in order to stand a chance in the fight and that will be my main focus as I go into the next two months of training,” Zarika is further quoted.
As she is determined to keep her record again Zarika is urging her fans to come out in large number to show their support.
