For the better part of Thursday evening, Governor John Nyagarama was at pain to explain his latest appointments, at least through his proxies and government mandarins.
The ODM county boss has struggled to stamp his authority with residents accusing him of rewarding hundreds of relatives without due process.
Pauline Oyugi, his sister-in-law was nominated to cabinet as Trade and Tourism minister while the name of Kennedy Mong'are, his first cousin has been forwarded to assembly for approval as member of CPSB.
"It is a sad state of affairs. Recruiting the entire family to government without following due process. Something urgent must be done," argued Sam Omosa.
Vincent Omao, a renowned activist added: "I will be moving to courts. We can't allow someone to abuse public office. He must pay for this mess."
Also appointed to the CPSB without appearing for interview is David Nyachiro, a retired principal and brother to Nyagarama's attorney Jones Nyachiro.
A senior government official who spoke in confidence accused the governor of using his position to make unprocedural appointments thus making work difficult.
"Handling his relatives is a big problem. They think that they are above the law. It's a toxic environment but we must live with it," he said.
With Pauline's latest appointment, four of the ministers are now directly related to governor while another one is a close relative of the Deputy Governor Amos Nyaribo.
Despite the allegations going viral on social media, the government has remained silent, raising further suspicions.
