Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu now claims President Uhuru Kenyatta will throw his weight behind his deputy William Ruto in the 2022 general election.
The county boss dismissed rumours that the Head of State was planning to ditch Ruto for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga after the handshake as false and baseless.
Speaking on Sunday, Waititu said he has noted Uhuru was keen to honour his 2013 pre-election agreement with his deputy, adding the supporters of the DP have nothing to worry about the 2022 polls.
“I was with President Kenyatta the other day and from my keen observation, he hasn’t changed his mind to support Dr Ruto after his second five-year term,” he said, as quoted by the Standard.
Waititu spoke during the thanksgiving ceremony of Ainamoi MP Sylvanus Maritim that was also attended by various leaders from the Rift Valley region.
On his part, the DP exuded confidence ahead of the much-awaited polls saying he was sure of beating his fiercest rival the ODM leader.
“I have built friendship across the country and we are going to teach Raila a political lesson when the right time comes,” he remarked.
Ruto further warned Raila against politicising the war on corruption saying if he was not ready to work with Jubilee in transforming Kenya he should go back to the opposition.
"How long does Raila think he can fool us? We know his political game. We must now be firm and ensure that this Government delivers," Ruto opined.
"That is how we are going to change Kenya. Let Odinga go back to the opposition and continue his opposition work," added the Jubilee deputy party leader.
