Recently, Awiti moved to the apex court to challenge a Court of Appeal ruling that maintained the Homa Bay High court’s decision to annul his victory in the 2017 general elections.

As voters in the county wait for a way forward from the Supreme Court, Homa Bay County Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has denied claims that she intends to vie for the gubernatorial post, should Awiti’s appeal be dismissed.

There have been claims that Wanga may resign from the Woman Representative position, to vie for the governor’s seat, on an ODM party ticket.

“I want to make it clear here today that I was elected unopposed and, therefore, I still have the work of five years to complete. After five years, you’re the people who will decide. But, for now, I will remain where I am. So let the rumors going round stop,” Wanga was qquoted by Citizen TV.

Governor Awiti’s win was annulled following a petition challenging his election.

The petition was filed by his fierce rival Joseph Oyugi Mangwanga.

The Supreme Court can either throw out Awiti’s appeal and order for a fresh election, or declare that Awiti was elected fairly thus giving him a nod to serve for the second term.
