Former Kesses parliamentary aspirant Allan Kosgei is the latest formidable gubernatorial aspirant, eying to unseat Nandi governor Stephen Sang in 2022 general elections.
Kosgei, son to longest-serving North Rift politician, Henry Kosgei, has opted to go back home after he unsuccessfully vied for the Kesses parliamentary seat and lost to Dr Swarup Mishra following a hotly contested campaign.
The youthful politicians' movement across the county, attending fundraisers, social functions and youths' forum, has been politically translated to warming up to join other leaders that have shown an interest of probably kicking out the youngest county boss, governor Sang.
Apart from Kosgei, the politicians that have indicated to join the race for the top county office include the vocal lawmaker for Nandi Hills Alfred Keter and his counterparts Corneli Serem (Tinderet) and Julius Meli as well as Senator Kiprotich Cherargei.
Ahead of the 2022 political showdown, it will not be a walk in the park for the first-term governor in his bid to retain the office for the second term.
Sang, a former senator after 2013 election won the gubernatorial seat in 2017 after beating veteran politician Henry Kosgei, who came second in party primaries.
It is noted that no governor, in Nandi, has ever succeeded to retain the seat for the second term including the like of Cleophas Lagat, thus history tells Sang that he should be determined to deliver on substantive development that will foster his bid for the second term.
The task ahead of Deputy President Ruto's ally is to build up his outstanding legacy, keep his politics at bar ahead of 2022, and by doing so he will formidably face off political giants.
