Deputy President William Ruto allies are scheming to have a presidential age limit be one of the items in a referendum.
The allies said the question of the age of presidential candidates should be considered as a question in the plebiscite.
Aldai MP Cornelly Serem, who is one of the known allies of the DP, said they have set up a think tank to deal with the probability of a referendum.
“We will start meeting next week as like-minded leaders and start critiquing the 2010 Constitution, we want to ensure the deliberations make to the final resolutions that will form questions in the referendum if it comes to pass,” the MP told the Sunday Standard.
The team has a strategy that is likely to rattle NASA co-principal Raila Odinga’s lieutenants; introducing a presidential age limit.
“We are also looking at suggesting an age limit of 70 for presidential candidates and a rotational presidency among other radical measures,” Serem said.
Raila will be 77 years in 2022 where his supporters are expecting him to run for the fifth time.
Plans by his political rival William Ruto’s backers, to lock him out of the race, will likely light political fireworks.
