Ruto since Jubilee won the presidential election last year has visited Bungoma severally and is keen on gaining more support in the vote-rich county.

Ford Kenya on Sunday said it may be forced to institute disciplinary action against rebel members who the political formation claimed had gone against its principles.

The resolution was arrived at during the party's Bungoma County general conference held in Kanduyi, Bungoma.

The party in a brief statement shared on social media said leaders who will defy its regulations and support presidential candidates from other parties will be punished. This will entail summoning such adherents to the party's disciplinary Committee to explain their actions.

"Ford Kenya Party Senator Moses Wetangula has distanced himself from rebel leaders [who] have been visiting other 2022 Presidential candidates," the statement posted on Facebook said.

"During the Bungoma County Ford Kenya general meeting, leaders vowed to strength the party and instill discipline," the statement read in part.

The meeting came two weeks after Ruto on January 2, 2019 hosted a delegation from Bungoma at his Sugoi home in Uasin Gishu.

Those who attended the Kanduyi meeting included Wetangula, Secretary General Dr Eseli Simiyu, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi.

The leaders said party members should consult top party organs before making such moves.

Others in attendance were Kabuchai MP James Mukwe , Woman Representative Catherine Wambilyanga , Deputy Governor Ngome Kibanani and Ford Kenya MCAs.
