The two officers based at the Inland Container Depot Nairobi (ICDN) Messrs, Godfrey Nyamu and Newton Mwachoki, an assistant superintendent and a docker respectively were recognised during the weekly stakeholders meeting held at the ICDN.

Speaking while congratulating the duo for declining to take bribes, KPA Managing Director Dr Daniel Manduku told the stakeholders that the commendation ceremony marked the management’s commitment to inculcating an ethical culture at KPA.

“The reason we are here today is to show our commitment to the development of ethical culture and we do request all our external stakeholders to strongly support this course."

"We would like to create a conducive environment for you to operate but we cannot do that without your cooperation. We are therefore encouraging you to be transparent by exposing any member of staff ruining our integrity,” said the MD.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by the General Manager Operations and Harbour Master Captain William Ruto termed the purge against corruption as a joint effort initiative and urged the stakeholders not to view the problem of bribery and corruption as an exclusive KPA problem but a challenge for all players in the maritime industry.

“Let us stop corruption. Let us stop bribery. Let us tackle it jointly to create an environment suitable to conduct business,” he added.
