The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership has admitted that the party is indeed having some issues which might weigh it down in the approaching 2022 general polls.

This follows an internal audit that termed its poor nomination process and interference by some top bosses in primaries as the reason behind its dwindling fortunes.

Speaking on Thursday, party National Chair John Mbadi announced that the party is settling down to address the named reasons, and will begin by holding a meeting.

He said that the party will hold grassroot elections in a bid to recapture its place as the largest party some years back, and will also implement all the proposals in the audit.

"The authors of the report did a good job. It reflects the diverse views of the party’s supporters. What we as the party’s top structure now intend to do is to hold a meeting, dissect the report and reflect on the recommendations that it suggests,” he was quoted by the Nation.

However, Mbadi noted that the party's issues are neither to blame on its executives, not unique to only ODM.

"Just like Jubilee has President Uhuru Kenyatta, Kanu has Gideon Moi, ANC has Musalia Mudavadi and others. But as a party, we will address all these issues as per the recommendations of the report,” he added.

The report also warned that the party badly depends on its leader Raila Odinga and could collapse in his absence.

As part of the implementation of the proposal, the party on Monday gave its Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna the nod to prepare for grassroots polls.
