Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has challenged women politicians to aim and fight for higher elective seats in 2022 General Elections.
Ngilu argued that women have what it takes to take up the country’s political and leadership seats.
Speaking at a UN women plenary session during the launch of #50 journeys, a book documenting stories of courage and transformation by women leaders on Thursday, Ngilu asked women to be aggressive.
She urged women leaders to seek elective seats that will change the country’s leadership.
“I call upon those elected women leaders to identify higher elective seats and contest in the 2022 election,” Ngilu said.
Ngilu observed that the issues facing the country need the intervention of women leaders.
She said male leaders have ran out of ideas to run key government institutions hence women should take over.
The Kitui county boss also urged women leaders to mentor their colleagues at grassroots levels.
“I am a living testimony for I am here where I am because of Professor Maria Nzomo. She motivated, mentored and trained me on how to talk to people back in 1992,” she added.
On the two-thirds gender Bill, Ngilu regretted that the rule is yet to be passed into law eight years since the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.
She asked women to remain aggressive and push for the law to be passed.
