Veteran politician Koigi Wamwere now says that things are worsening within the ruling Jubilee Party, regarding opposition leader Raila Odinga's entrance into the equation.
A section of the party politicians have been very uncomfortable since Raila's truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta early last year, and have repeatedly aired their concerns and fears.
On Friday, a section of the leaders attended a fundraiser cum political rally in Nakuru county, where they declared their support for Deputy President (DP) William Ruto.
Led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Nakuru counterpart Susan Kihika, they also poked holes into Raila's refusal to leave Uhuru's side after the truce.
Speaking on Saturday, Koigi who is a former Subukia MP in the county said that he read malice in the meeting, adding that it could be the start of the end of Jubilee.
He said that the meeting was all about warning Uhuru that he will have to choose between Raila or the party, now that Odinga seems to be overtaking the DP in the party.
"Mkutano ule ulikuwa wa kutangaza vita. Ni kama walikuwa wanasema aidha Raila aondoke ama chama kife," he said during an interview on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show Saturday evening.
(They were declaring war and were saying that its either Raila leaves or the party dies).
He said that the group has demonstrated that it harbors a very strong hatred against Raila and is willing to go to any extent to block him.
"Inaonekana chuki yao kwa Raila in kubwa kuliko umoja wa chama," he added.
(It appears their hatred for Raila is stronger than their desire for a united party).
The politician who has worked with both sides between 2017 and now, wondered why the team is so bitter with Raila even after showing goodwill and readiness to work with them.
"Kama Raila yuko tayari kufanya kazi na serikali, mbona hawa hawamtaki?" he posed.
(Why would they reject him yet he has demonstrated his readiness to work with the government)
