Having a degree doesn't guarantee you a job. It has come to our realisation that some Kenyan employers prefer diploma to degree holders. What could be the reasons behind it?
Some degree holders are not competent enough, or they see themselves so special and therefore making it difficult for them to be hired.
Here are some reasons why some Kenyan employers prefer diploma to degree holders:
1. Diploma holders are not choosy
When it comes to jobs, most diploma holders are pretty aware of how the country is flooded with unemployed graduates.
So in most cases, they tend to be humble and not picky when they are seeking for jobs.
They are ready to take any job in their area of specialisation.
With regards to degree graduates, most of them are fond of choosing jobs.
2. Diploma holders are more industrious than degree holders
This might not be true, but according to careerpointkenya.com, it is reported that diploma holders are more hardworking than their counterparts.
Although we should always consider the salary, diploma holders are not so much into salary.
They focus on their work and gaining experience, and believe that their salaries will increase with time.
3. Diploma holders don't change jobs too often compared to people with degrees
People who have graduated with diplomas tend to be loyal to the company, and ready to work for the company for an undefined period.
They are not fond of moving from one company to another in search of better pay like degree holders.
Most employers find it so hard to hire degree holders because of this reason.
