A 26-year-old man was lynched to death by angry members of the public after he was allegedly caught with two (2) stolen chicken.
The incident happened on Wednesday at Nyabogoye village in Masaba North, Nyamira County.
Confirming the incident Embaro sub location assistant Danston Ombae said the deceased whose identity is yet to be revealed, stormed a homestead of one of the locals on the wee hours of Wednesday, broke into a house where the chicken were being houses and stole 2 of them.
"The owner of the chicken was awaken by the noise the chicken were producing while the suspect was running away with them. An alarm was raised and members of the public chased after the suspect until they nabbed him," he said.
The chief said the suspect could not manage to escape since over 100 locals ganged up to beat him.
"The deceased was beaten thoroughly before his body was set on fire. Police officers didn't manage to rescue the deceased," he added.
He warned locals against lynching crime suspects.
"No one is allowed to take the law into his or her hands. Those who lynched the suspect are being hunted down," he assured.
Ombae said the body of the deceased was taken to Gucha hospital morgue in Keroka.
