According to the lawmaker, the move is unconstitutional and uncalled for.

The legislator argues that CBK did not involve the public in making the decision, adding that the portrait of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta who is also the founding father of the nation, is not supposed to be on the currency.

"The directive is in violation of the constitution and the Central Bank Act," his petition read as quoted by Standard.

His argument was echoed by activist Okiya Omtatah, who opined that the notes launched by the CBK contravene the Constitution and should be rejected.

"It violates the law, and therefore, the new banknotes are null and void. They have no effect in law and must be rejected," Omtath said.

The unveiling of the notes continue to elicit mixed reactions from all quarters.

A section of leaders have backed the initiative arguing that it will help curb the rampant corruption being witnessed in the country.
