Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru has condemned the manner in which police arrested Nakuru East MP David Gikaria on Saturday.
Gikaria was nabbed following a land tussle between him and a local politician at Pipeline area along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway.
Fracas emerged after Gikaria allegedly resisted arrest forcing officers to use force to carry him to the awaiting police vehicle.
Nakuru County Deputy Police Commander Kirunya Limbitu claimed the legislator slapped a police officer during the incident.
“The MP assaulted the Bondeni Police Station Deputy OCS who wanted to arrest him. He took off but other officers managed to arrest him. For this, he will also face charges once we take him to court,” said Kirunya.
It is alleged junior police officers assaulted Gikaria while in custody to 'teach him a lesson' for slapping the OCS.
Disturbing photos emerged online showing the vocal MP sleeping on the floor. He was wearing a t-shirt and had no shoe on one foot.
Reacting to the shocking images, Waruguru accused police of being brutal in the manner they handled the legislator.
"MP David Gikaria lying on the floor. No matter what, no Kenyan should go through this kind of brutality.I condemn this henious act by the police," she tweeted.
"If Hon. Gikaria was a normal Wanjiku, he would be lying in a morgue. We have laws and procedures to arrest," Waruguru added.
The MP was released on a free bond on Sunday and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.
