Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has fired warning shots to rivals hours after his party bagged a major victory in Embakasi South constituency on Friday's mini polls.
The Wiper party had accused rival ODM of undermining it after the Orange party fielded Irshad Sumra as it's candidate in the constituency despite the two parties having an existing MoU on working relationship.
"It was unfortunate for our NASA coalition partner @TheODMparty to pridefully field a candidate against Wiper, this humiliating loss is the humble pie they must eat. @edwinsifuna Enjoy. Congratulations Hon Mawathe," Wiper party said.
Julius Mawathe, who had lost the seat following an Appeals Court decision, triumphed after scooping over 21,000 votes to Mr Sumra's 7,900 votes. The victory saw celebrations rock the cosmopolitan constituency.
And Mr Musyoka said the victory reaffirmed that the party believes in one Kenya, adding that the people of Embakasi South believes in the Wiper Democratic Movement party.
"We congratulate the people of Embakasi for their confidence in the @WiperMovement and the Party Candidate for Embakasi Hon Julius Mawathe. This comprehensive victory reaffirms our commitment as a party that believes in One Kenya, a home for all. The journey has just began," he said.
ODM was expecting to extend her representation in the city to 9 legilators to equal rival Jubilee but the plans did not go well. Mr Raila Odinga had pitched tent in the constituency on Tuesday.
Secretary General Edwin Sifuna conceded that the party did not perform as expected but insisted supporters had given their best. It was the first time ODM was losing in by-elections in as many months.
