The Olympic champion smashed Dennis Kimetto’s four- year Marathon World Record to become the new record holder.

In an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday evening by Jeff Koinange, Kipchoge attributed his success to hard work, discipline and consistent training.

Kipchoge remains a source of inspiration to many upcoming athletes and the whole nation as he maintains that it is not yet over for him and will still appear in other upcoming races.

During the interview, the greatest marathoner of all time revealed these ten secrets for his success in athletics;

"I believe in teamwork. I don’t believe in shining alone. 100 per cent of myself is nothing if it only amounts to 1 per cent of the team’s performance."

''I don't run for the money, I run to inspire people."

"If money is your main focus, it’s like driving very fast on a highway while concentrating on the rear view mirror!''

"It feels good to break a world record and inspire millions of youth that if you work hard and run clean then you will be successful."

"I don’t run by my legs; I run by my heart and my mind."

"The moment you start having too much pride then that is a sign of failure."

"Independence is good, but interdependence is GREAT."

"Records are meant to be broken."

"I don't have a problem with discipline, I made discipline my lifestyle."

"You cannot be successful without a good team."
