The government has been asked to come up with national dialogue and consensus on how to deal with corruption so as to develop an inclusive clear multi-pronged strategy of fighting the vice.
Speaking in Eldoret during the national dialogue conference organized by the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) on Monday, Cyprian Nyamwamu, a Pan African Governance, Gender and leadership consultant said President Uhuru Kenyatta’s fight against corruption will succeed if the war is depoliticized and a strategy put in place.
“The war against corruption can’t succeed through rallies and political utterances alone without involving all stakeholders and must bring on board as much expertise, gender, age balance and the organ which is the touchstone of implementation,” Nyamwamu said.
He noted that the fight against corruption must be as inclusive as possible.
“Corruption cannot be fought only by legal strategy and arrests but also by involving religious, cultural, ethnic community council of elders. The National Assembly should also come up with a law that will force all government workers to declare a conflict of interest,” noted the activist.
He further said those who have stolen public resources should be given an amnesty period to return the money and properties belonging to the government.
