Stephen Ng'ang'a was reportedly alone in the hose when the fire broke out on Sunday night, and was burnt beyond recognition.

This was apparently due to his inability to save himself, having suffered a stroke.

The incident was confined by area chief Ann Wambui who said that the fire erupted at about 10pm, adding that deceased succumbed to his burns and could not be saved.

“The fire was reported at around 10pm. The man was partially paralyzed and could not escape from the burning house. He was burnt beyond recognition and succumbed,” the administrator was quoted by the Standard.

According to a neighbor, the incident happened while the wife of the deceased and their two daughters were preparing dinner in a separate house which houses the kitchen.

The situation was worsened by the timber material used to construct the house of the retired veterinary officer which made it had to salvage anything from the house.

The chief said that a probe has been launched into the inferno.

“Investigations on the cause of the fire have been launched but we suspect that it might have been triggered by a lantern which was burning in the room. It might have accidentally collapsed on combustible materials,” she added.

The body of the deceased was moved to the Eldama Ravine Sub County jospital's morgue.
