Speaking during an interview at a local radio station on Wednesday, Muthama said the actions of Wiper party to give out tickets unfairly drove him to step down.

"I don't regret at all, I made my choice which I'm proud of. If I hadn't made that choice, I wouldn't know how to face my people," Muthama said.

Muthama said he would have felt bad criticising the party while in, which would have seemed as a betrayal. He said he stepped down in solidarity with the politicians who were given a raw deal in the party nominations.

" I always preached about equality and fairness as I poached people to Wiper, but the nominations failed me. Therefore, I had to stand with those who were left out," Muthama said.

He said most of those who were left out at the nominations would have clinched the seats that Wiper lost.

Muthama said the party lost most of the seats where unfair tickets were issued mostly in Machakos County.

He, however, made it clear that he is not moving out of Wiper party soon.
