Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has revealed that he was not conversant with the county governance when he was elected as the second governor after Evans Kidero.
Speaking to journalists while announcing his new cabinet in Kilifi, Sonko said that he was grey on the requirements of appointing county government officials.
“Kwa term ya kwanza, nilipeana mawaziri kandarasi ya mwaka moja moja. Sikua conversant na system za mawaziri, sikua nawajua wengine wao, nikawapea kandarasi ya mwaka moja moja (In my first term, I gave the CECs a one-year contract. I was not conversant with the Cabinet system and I did not know some of them very well and that is why I gave them a contract for only one year),” sonko said.
The Jubilee-elected governor added that he does not entertain corruption in the county government and warned that those caught in it will be dealt with.
Sonko reassigned some CECs including Mohammed Dagani (Roads Infrastructure and Transport), Allan Igambi (Trade Tourism and Cooperatives), Larry Wambua (CEC Agriculture and Water) and Newton Munene (CEC ICT, Communication and E-government).
