Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange has rubbished claims that Mt Kenya region could abandon Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.
Koinange says that Mt Kenya is solidly behind DP Ruto’s 2022 bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking to journalists in Kiambaa Town on Saturday, the Jubilee MP asked DP Ruto to ignore ‘noisemaker ’s assuring him that Mt Kenya is 100 percent behind him.
He said claims that Mt Kenya might abandon Ruto are meant to cause rifts in Jubilee government and scuttle President Kenyatta’s development legacy.
“DP Ruto should not listen to noisemakers and know that our support for him in 2022 is intact,” Koinange said.
He further indicated that Mt Kenya will not be compromised by anyone to change its mind on backing the former Turbo MP.
There are claims of rifts in Jubilee Party with some politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto alleging that some people close to president Kenyatta want to lock the DP out of the 2022 race.
The politicians allege that some political forces opposed to DP Ruto are allegedly holding meetings to frustrate his bid.
According to media reports, a section of Kikuyu elders now wants DP Ruto to retire alongside President Kenyatta in 2022.
DP Ruto is banking on President Kenyatta and Mt Kenya’s support for his 2022 presidential bid.
