A section of politicians from Gusii region have accused Senate Minority Leader James Orengo of witch-hunt following his criticism on the decision by Chief Justice David Maraga to attend an event in Kisii.

Maraga was pictured standing by the roadside at Kisii as Deputy President William Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed a gathering on Wednesday.

But the MPs led by Borabu's Ben Momanyi have defended the CJ, adding that he was justified to be at his backyard to witness launching of projects.

"There is nothing wrong as long as he didn't speak at the roadside. He only addressed a closed-door meeting. Senator James Orengo and his team should give the CJ a break," he said.

South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro added: "It is hypocritical for Orengo to castigate the CJ. We all know that he's a leader from Gusii and he after all never addressed the rally. Let us give him a break."

North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko wondered why Senator Orengo and the team descended on Maraga yet he's a leader of a branch of government.

"The debate is null and void. He should get better things to do. The CJ is a leader in government and there is nothing wrong for him to participate in events organised by some other arm of government."

Orengo termed Maraga's presence as 'bad manners' and insisted that the move sets a bad precedent within the Judiciary, a statement that was backed by many lawyers.
