A newborn baby dumped in a pit latrine by its mother was on Friday morning rescued and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Residents from Kware village in Kaptembwa, Nakuru Town West discovered the baby through its cries after the mother dumped the baby.
Area residents worked together and managed to rescue the baby alive and rushed it to Mother Kevin Hospital in Kaptembwa for medical attention.
Dr Victor Onsare from Mother Kevin Hospital said the infant who is weighing 2.6kg was rushed in the morning to the hospital.
Dr Onsare said they are still conducting check-ups but said the baby was in a stable condition adding that its not the first time the hospital has received a baby that has been dumped.
“He is just undergoing medical treatment as he lacked oxygen on arrival,” said Dr Onsare said as quoted by nation.co.ke.
Area residents suspect that the newborn baby was dumped by someone who is a not a resident of the area.
Jerald Omanga, a resident, said he rushed to the scene when he heard his neighbors’ screams while he was milking his cows.
He said one of the locals was lowered into the pit latrine and together with the other people they rescued the baby.
“I left immediately heading to where the noise was coming from. After we confirmed that there was a baby in the pit, we dismantled part of the floor of the toilet so that we could gain access,” said Omanga.
