Former Makueni Senator the late Mutula Kilonzo was among veteran politicians in Ukambani and the country at large.
Kilonzo was among former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka's trusted political allies and confidants.
The late senator’s political tactics and approaches saw him win Kalonzo’s heart.
However, the deceased who had been elected as the Makueni Senator on a Wiper Party ticket in 2013 died mysteriously.
Kilonzo’s sudden death shocked the country and political circles since it happened only a few months after his election.
The late Mutula Kilonzo served in various positions.

1. Mbooni MP
He was first elected as Mbooni MP on a Wiper ticket in 2007.
2. Minister- Nairobi Metropolitan Development
He was appointed as the Nairobi Metropolitan Development Minister in 2008 and served to 2009.
The late Kilonzo was charged with the cleaning of Nairobi River.
3. Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutionals Minister
He served in this position from 2009-2012.
The late Kilonzo was appointed Justice Minister in 2009 and spearheaded key constitutional changes among them the push for the 2010 constitution.
4. Education Minister
He was appointed the Education Minister in 2012
Late Kilonzo served in this position until 2013.
5. Legal Adviser
Kilonzo once served as a private legal adviser to retired president Daniel Arap Moi.
6. Chairman, Mwaki Foundation
The late Mutula Kilonzo served as the Mwaki Foundation's chairman, an initiative which he established to support needy but bright children's education.
7. Kilonzo & Company Advocates founder
He established the Kilonzo & Co. Advocates firm that is now being managed by his children Mutula Kilonzo Junior and Kethi Kilonzo.
8. Senator
Kilonzo served as Makueni senator for only two months before his sudden death in 2013.
