Nyamira County hospital management has raised concern over the increased number of unclaimed bodies at the facility’s mortuary.
According to the Public Health Officer at the facility, Fredrick Maobe, there are 30 bodies yet to be collected from the mortuary.
He called on Nyamira residents with their loved ones at the mortuary to collect the bodies for burial to give room for more other bodies to be preserved.
“Currently there are 30 unclaimed bodies at the hospital mortuary. I am calling upon Nyamira residents with their loved ones at the mortuary to come and pick the bodies for burial so that we can have room for other bodies to be preserved,” he noted.
Maobe said there is congestion of dead bodies at the facility due to the high number of unclaimed bodies.
“Most of the bodies were brought in by police from accident scenes within Nyamira while others have been lying at the mortuary due to court cases. We need the bodies to be collected within 7 days to create space, failure to which we will bury the bodies in one grave since no one is coming to claim the bodies,” he noted.
