Baringo Senator Gideon Moi may back down his quest for country's top seat in 2022 because he has not clearly communicated his commitment for the electorate to decide.
Although his KANU allies have been affirming that their party chairman would be in the ballot in 2022, Mr. Moi himself has not come out declare his ambitions openly.In August 2018 during a meeting by the party officials across the country, it was agreed that Mr.Moi be prepared to run for the presidency as demanded by the party supporters.
Daily Nation quoted the Rift valley KANU coordinator, Mr.Kibet saying, “We have been urged by KANU members across the country to start putting in place measures to prepare our party leader for the highest seat on land.”
Mr Kibet said during the meeting at Cheptebo AIC Conference Centre.
Baringo optimistically banks on president Uhuru's support whose term ends in 2022, but contrary to the same, the head of state has been on record saying that, he would hand over the button to his deputy.
Another reason that may make junior Moi avoid going for the big seat is that his popularity is confined is much confined to Baringo country, compared to Dp Ruto, his rival.
Ruto has the majority of his supporters in Rift Valley and others countrywide. This is evidenced by the few numbers of members of KANU elected leaders, compared to those of Jubilee who support the deputy president.
There is also a possibility of the vocal senator deputising a presidential candidate in 2022, after leaders like Raila Odinga spoke of a likely alliance with Gideon Moi, after trouping to Kabarak to see the former head of state who doubles as the legislator's father.
