Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has appealed city residents to cultivate patriotic values as they mark the Jamhuri day celebrations.
Sonko asked Nairobians to nurture the cohesion and patriotism that was shown by the founding fathers of the country.
"On behalf of all Nairobi residents, I wish all Kenyans a happy Jamhuri Day. It is with joy and pride that we celebrate 55 years of independence," he said.
"I appeal to all Kenyans to nurture the values of cohesion and patriotism as envisaged by our brave, selfless and visionary freedom fighters," he added.
Sonko was speaking in Nairobi on Wednesday as the nation marked the 55th anniversary of independence.
