It has now emerged that local politicians never did their homework of ensuring that opposition chief Raila Odinga gets an easy job in selling the industrial park idea to Muhoroni residents.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss was reportedly heckled by angry locals of Ombeyi who were protesting the planned takeover of their land, for the construction of the park.

However, Kisumu Woman Representative Rosa Buyu now says that Raila was not to blame for the scenario, but rather area leaders who slept on their job.

She said that leaders, herself included, did not make any effort to sensitize locals on the proposed project, leading them into thinking that it was a planned attempt to grab their land.

"We as area leaders are to blame for the embarrassment Raila was subjected to. We did not educate the people on the benefits of the project which is not Raila's role," she said.

She made the remarks in an interview on Radio Nam Lolwe on Monday morning, also attended by former Nairobi Woman Representative Rachael Shebesh.

Buyu lauded the project which will come as part of the proposed extension of the Standard Gauge Railway to Kisumu, noting that it will boost the area's economy and create jobs.

"Raila thought each part of the county should benefit. Since the Port of Kisumu is in Kisumu West, and a number of projects have been launched in Kisumu Central, he thought it was better to bring his one to Muhoroni," she added.
