Nairobi will be the place to be on September 8 when Kenya's leading female boxer Zarika Fatuma will lock horns with Mexican Yamileth Mercado at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre.
Apart from her spectacular record at home, Zarika is also the World Boxing Council (WBC) Super bantamweight champion.
Zarika has been in a training camp in the UK for intense preparations for the bout that will see her defend her title in case she wins.
The Kenyan Iron Fist has not been in any competitive fight since beating Zambian Catherine Phiri December last year.
The fight was staged at the Carnivore grounds in Nairobi and she won it by unanimous points decision to defend her WBC Super bantamweight title.
Ahead of the fight, Iron Fist says she is ready for victory even though the opponent is a tough one.
“I don’t know her personally but I have watched her YouTube videos and I can tell she is a really good boxer,” she said.
“I have seen which areas of my boxing needs to improve in order to stand a chance in the fight and that will be my main focus as I go into the next two months of training,” she added.
“We will welcome Mercado to Kenya, this country is full of good and loving people but I would urge her to be very prepared for the fight because I will ready.”
Zarika rose to fame to take the place of Kenyan female champion Konjestina Achieng who was forced to hang her gloves due to illness.
