The government will from next year roll out diploma courses in training teachers instead of the current P1.
The diploma courses will be used to aid the implementation of the new education curriculum that is set to be in place by January next year.
Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed said that the government seeks to train teachers with high-quality mechanisms in place as a means of achieving the goals of the Competence Based Curriculum.
As the first term begins, learners from pre-primary 1 and 2 and Grades 1-3 will be put on the less examination-oriented CBC in all public and private primary schools.
The implementation of the new curriculum has been marred with controversy with stakeholders stating that the country is not ready for a new system due to poor preparation.
At the same time, the Kenya National Union of Teachers has declared a nationwide strike to protest the transfer of teachers and lack of promotions.
