Addressing media, the locals are now calling on officials of the public health to step in and ensure the slaughterhouse is closed if it does not comply with hygienic standards.

According to the locals, the matter should be addressed as soon as possible to avoid future infections that may break and added that they have raised the matter with relevant authorities but in vain as no action has been taken.

Led by Wandia Kariuki, a beneficiary of the slaughterhouse, she vowed to boycott eating meat in the area until action is taken.

“We cannot continue eating meat yet it comes from the slaughterhouse that does not adhere to hygiene. This is lie eating poisoned meat knowingly,” said Wandia.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Esther Gikimo who says despite having complained to various leaders, they have remained silent about the matter.

According to Gikimo, if the menace of the slaughterhouse and the dumping site will not be addressed then locals will continue to suffer from diseases in the area.

“We have tried to complain even to the area MCA and Governor but all is in vain. We hope they will visit this area access it themselves and see what is happening,” said Gikimo.

Another local James Waithaka is calling on Nakuru County government to suspend the operations of the slaughterhouse as solution is being sought.

He says that is the only way the lives of the residents living in the area will be protected from diseases.
