Deputy President William Ruto would have defeated Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Amolo Odinga if elections were conducted today, a survey by ISS-Africa has revealed.
According to the survey, which involved 1,700 people from different parts of the country, DP emerged as the most preferred Presidential candidate at 30.81 per cent followed by Raila, who doubles as African Union Special envoy, at 27.50 per cent.
The poll ranked Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko third at 12.8 per cent and Amani leader Musalia Mudavadi fourth with 9.3 per cent. The poll ranked Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, who has also expressed his interest in the post, at fifth positions at 8.5 per cent.
The report was released by Insights Strategists Solutions Head of Research Peter Macharia. The report also said that both Raila and Ruto, who has promised to remain faithful to Uhuru, are still strong in thier backyards.
“Raila Odinga and William Ruto are still holding their blocks tight with 66 per cent and 65 per cent in Nyanza and Rift Valley respectively,” read part of the survey
The report also revealed that Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi is the most preferred presidential running mate after he garnered 22.4 per cent of the votes while Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, who parted ways with Kalonzo, came second in the running mate contest at 18.3 per cent.
The Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, who lost his seat to the incumbent Ferdinard Waititu, and Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria scooped the fourth and fifth position with15.5 per cent and 9.6 per cent respectively. In the past leaders have criticized polls for what they term as misleading statistics.
