Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been the subject of discussion as far as Ukambani politics is concerned for past months.
Kalonzo who has declared an interest to contest the presidential seat in the 2022 polls insists that he is the right candidate to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The former Vice President further says that he has what it takes to be president and will not shelve his ambition for anyone.
Kalonzo’s political seriousness has however been questioned and continues to face rebellion from some of his close allies in Ukambani.
The former Vice President has, however, rubbished claims of facing rebellion, noting that the ‘rebellion thing’ is a creation of the media.
Early this month, Kalonzo hosted the Kamba annual convention meeting, stating that he is firmly in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Political analyst Peter Ngure observes that Kalonzo needs to stamp his authority as Kamba leader even as he seeks to be president.
Ngure says there is no way Kalonzo will contest and win the presidency if Ukambani is not united behind him.
According to the analyst, here are three politicians giving Kalonzo sleepless nights and who he must seek their support to be president in 2022.
1. Alfred Mutua
Kalonzo fell out with Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua in 2013.
In the run-up to the 2017 general election, Mutua ditched Kalonzo’s Wiper Party and formed his Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCCP).
The two Kamba leaders are not seeing eye to eye with Mutua equally declaring interest in the 2022 presidential election.
The two leaders have vowed not to step down for anyone in their presidential ambition.
Ngure says that Kalonzo can secure his 2022 bid if he succeeds in wooing governor Mutua’s support.
2. Charity Ngilu
The Kitui governor is among vocal and experienced Kamba politicians.
Ngilu has a rich political history having been the first woman to contest for presidential election in 1997.
The relationship between Ngilu and Kalonzo is not that good.
Ngilu has been accusing Kalonzo of doing little to tame Wiper MCAs who she claims are frustrating her government.
Analyst Ngure says that Kalonzo needs Ngilu’s support to win the presidency in 2022.
3. Kivutha Kibwana
He is among veteran Kamba politicians.
He dissolved his Muunganao Party in the run-up to the 2017 general election and joined Kalonzo’s Wiper Party.
Kibwana was a close ally of Kalonzo until recently when their relationship went rocky.
The Makueni governor recently asked Kalonzo to relieve him of duties as Wiper chairperson.
Kibwana accused Kalonzo of allegedly using Wiper junior politicians to attack him.
Analyst Ngure states that it will be the end of Kalonzo in Ukambani if he does not reconcile and iron out issues with Kibwana.
Kibwana is also said to be eyeing the presidential seat in 2022 General Election.
