Chebukati suggested that the general elections should be held in two different dates.

Elections for the president and members of the parliament should be done on one day.

He also suggested that elections for governors and ward representatives should be held on separate days.

“Part of the things we identified is having six elections in one day takes a toll on our staff because they are the same staff who do the polling from 6am to 5pm and then convert the polling rooms into counting rooms,” said Chebukati as quoted by Citizen.

According to his recommendations, the general election dates will be changed from the second Tuesday of every August to another date.

The campaign to have General Elections held on different dates was started in 2013 by Isaac Hassan who was then the chairman of the elections body in Kenya.

Chebukati also commented on the 2017 general election started that the elections were done according to the law.

“I cannot say there were fishy things done; what I can say is that we had a number of challenges and it was not very smooth,” he said.
