In a meeting co-chaired by the Deputy county secretary Abdirashid Mohamed and CEC for Water and Irrigation Issa Oyow, the county resolved to set up a disaster monitoring group so as to avert possible deaths of animals and human beings when the dry season eventually knocks.

In the alert issued by NDMA coordinator Abdinoor Dubow, the looming drought poses a threat to pasture and water for livestock.

Dubow further disclosed expected intra-county and inter-county migration of people and livestock, something that might spark conflict between rival clans and even boundary disputes.

As part of mitigation measures, CEC Oyow said his ministry was contemplating water trucking to hard-hit areas where water pans have completely dried up.

To efficiently monitor the drought situation, a multi-agency team comprising of members from the county government, Kenya Red Cross (KRC), World Food Programme (WFP), Mercy Cop, Islamic Relief, and NDMA have already pitched tent in selected points for speedy intervention.
