Kisii Women Member to the National Assembly Janet Ong'era has fired warning shots to cartels selling and distributing illegal drugs such as bhang in the region.
While speaking on Friday at her office in Kisii town, the vocal lawmaker said she would not allow herself to sit back and watch youths plunge into abuse of illegal drugs.
"Youths have ventured into drug abuse because the drug barons are publicly selling the drugs without being arrested. As a woman, I'm not going to sit down and watch few cartels continue selling drugs to our youths," she noted.
She appealed to parents to report to the authorities any of their children who develops an addiction to any of the drugs especially smoking bhang.
"My request to parents is that they should be at the front line fighting the drug menace in the region for the purpose of ensuring the lives of young people are not ruined," she noted.
The vocal MP allied to ODM party challenged police officers to be vigilant and arrest drug barons.
"Drug traffickers who have camped in Kisii County to sell bhang and other illegal drugs to youths should be arrested and taken to court for prosecution," she added.
