President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration spent a whooping Sh.429 billion in only three (3) months despite strict measures installed to avoid wastage of public funds.
This massive spending was revealed in a report by the Controller of Budget for the period between July 1 and September 30 last year.
Payment of salaries took the lion’s share, semi-autonomous government agencies were second while both foreign and domestic travel expenses came in third of the highest spenders.
Being just the first quarter of the 2018-2019 financial year, the national government has shown worrying inconsistencies on how they spend public funds.
This misuse has since raised a red flag in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.
According to the report, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) lead the pact having used a total of Sh.58.2 billion in salary payment, followed by Ministry of Defense at Sh.30.2 billion while the Department of Early Learning came in third at Sh.24.7 billion.
The State Department of Interior came in fourth having used a total of Sh.17.8 billion to salaries.
The budget breakdown is a worrying state of how the national government is using public funds even as President Uhuru Kenyatta halted foreign travels last year to save on the expenditure.
