Deputy President (DP) William Ruto is a politician under political siege if the current political happenings are anything to go by.
The Deputy President is among top politicians who have declared interest in the 2022 presidential election.
Ruto is banking on president Uhuru Kenyatta’s support in 2022 especially in Mt Kenya region.
The former Eldoret North MP is, however, facing hurdles as a section of politicians especially from the Mt Kenya say it not a must for the region to support him.
The division on whether the region will support him (Ruto) or not in 2022 has resulted to formation of the tanga tanga and kitaeleweka movements.
The tanga tanga is backing Ruto’s 2022 bid while kitaeleweka is against his presidential ambition.
Despite the growing uncertainty on whether he will get Mt Kenya’s backing in 2022, Ruto has remained optimistic.
Here are the tactics the DP is currently applying to get Mt Kenya’s support in 2022.
1. Meeting community influencers
The Deputy President has managed to penetrate the larger Mt Kenya region and won the support of key leaders.
Ruto has major support in Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Nyahururu and even Nakuru.
In Kiambu, Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungw’a are pushing for Ruto’s presidency.
2. Church services
The Deputy President being a religious person has taken advantage of the church to meet the people and spread his development and 2022 gospel.
Ruto never misses church services, over the past few months, he has attended several church services in Kiambu and the larger Mt Kenya region.
During the services, Ruto always leaves donations, a move that has endeared him to the members of various churches in the country.
