This comes at a time when the opposing side seems to be shaking after two of its leading figures embraced the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee government.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka have since pledged their support and cooperation with the Head of State, a move that has seen them relegated from the opposition side.

According to ANC Secretary General Barrack Muluka, Mudavadi is as well not interested in the continental jobs that have been given to the two and is instead concentrating on strengthening the party ahead of the 2022 general election.

“What we have before us is the task of consolidating our party. ANC’s focus is on 2022 and to see who is ready to play the role of opposition leader,'' Muluka is quoted by the Standard.

Raila who faced-off with Uhuru in the previous presidential race shook hands with the President on March 9 and has since been nominated the African Union special envoy for infrastructure development.

On the other hand, Musyoka who was Raila's running-mate in the race was recently picked to lead the ongoing peace talks in war-torn neighbouring South Sudan.

This leaves out Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula who form the remaining part of the opposition's National Super Alliance (NASA).
