Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa is at the centre of emerging cracks in ODM where some members want her punished for openly supporting Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Among those pushing for the outspoken MP's punishment is ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna who says the MP failed to tore the ODM party line when she supported a presidential candidate from a different party.
Sifuna says the party will not tolerate members who speak against the principals of the country's largest opposition party and anyone who will dare to do so will face the ODMs disciplinary committee.
Jumwa has been under pressure to apologize to the ODM top leadership when she openly supported Ruto's 2022 State House bid.
"Political parties laws direct that disloyal members be kicked out," Sifuna recently said as he moved to push for Jumwa's punishment adding that he expects the ODM Malindi branch to initiate action against Jumwa's actions.
Jumwa on June 22 reiterated her support for Ruto warning the ODM party to dare take action against her.
"There is nothing I have done against the party and my mingling with other people is an extension of the handshake initiated by Raila," she said.
According to the local daily, some MPs from the Coast region are not happy with ODM's proposal to punish Jumwa.
Jumwa comes from Kilifi County headed by Governor Amason Kingi who also support Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
