Nyamira County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru has warned parents against condoning their children at home during school time.
Nakoru said parents were urged not to spend all their money to celebrate Christmas and New Year and therefore, no parent should claim there is no money to pay for school fees.
"Police and local chiefs are working under instructions not to condone any parent keeping his or her child at home during school time. Children who have reached school going age must ensure their children are enrolled in school without fail," he said.
The county security boss said starting Wednesday, local chiefs with the help of Nyumba Kumi officials will be going around villages to arrest those parents who have not taken their children back to school.
He urged children to report their parents to authorities whenever they will fail to pay school fees.
"Some parents are drinking chang'aa using money they should pay school fees for. Chiefs must arrest such irresponsible parents and arraign them in court immediately," he added.
Nakoru said poverty will only be eradicated from deep villages once children are taken to school.
