Members of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) from 13 branches in the Rift Valley region have endorsed Dr Erick Ruto for the national vice president position.
The endorsement coincided with Dr Ruto's declaration of his interest to vie for the seat on Wednesday.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town after launching his candidature, the Eldoret-based Reale Hospital proprietor said once elected, he will represent the interest of all the business community.
"My candidature will represent both medium and large enterprises in the country, I will represent their interest fully since I have experience and up to the task," Dr Ruto said.
He noted that recently, the business community had a tough business environment where many businesses collapsed due to non-payment of bills leading to their businesses being listed for auction subsequently being subjected to absurd poverty.
"I have proposed the repeal of the Public Procurement Act so that if a contractor trades with the government and completes the project, and in an event, the government refuses to pay, the Act will apply so that whatever is pending for the business people be subjected to commercial interest rates," he added.
Dr Ruto further pledged to will ensure that KNCCI in all the 47 counties is strengthened through proper funding for them to conduct their business at ease.
