Police offices on Saturday engaged supporters of former Lamu Governor Issa Timamy after they disrupted his meeting in Mpeketoni.
The security personnel were compelled to lobby teargas in order to disperse the die-hard supporters of the politician.
Timamy, who lost the battle to retain his seat after the Supreme Court ruled in the favour of his rival, was reportedly moving from one part of the county to another thanking residents for the support they accorded during and after the elections according to the Standard.
The police were, however, forced to use teargas to end the meeting after they termed it illegal.
Confirming the incident, Mpeketoni station commander Thomas Odenyo said that Timamy had not been given permission to hold such meetings after suffering the loss at the ballot box.
An undisclosed number of police officers were reportedly deployed at various strategic points to bar the former County boss from accessing Mpeketoni before the incident took place.
The action of the police did not go well with Timamy’s supporters.
They faulted them of using excessive force to stop them from listening to a man they believe still had the capacity to transform their lives.
