Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has revealed to Kenyans the secret behind his people not starving from hunger.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap leader said he has done a lot to encounter food shortage in his county
On his Twitter account, Mutua said that for many years, Machakos county used to be in the list of counties that had a shortage of food but things changed after he took power.
Mutua said as a county boss, he set sustainable food policies that were meant to end the shame of food relief in the county
“Over a few years and again this time after the county launched the programs, we have remained food secure,” Mutua tweeted.
The governor added that he had promised Machakos residents that he would eliminate the perennial food shortage by putting in place an ambitious agriculture subsidy programs.
Mutua said this includes expanding the county's economic welfare and introducing water harvesting system that will befit many people in the county.
He said his administration has also allocated a huge budget towards the provision of water for both domestic and subsistence usage.
Mutua who is serving his second and final term in office said he has so far sunk 420 boreholes at the village levels across the county to enable the residents to access clean water.
“Access to water is a right and not a privilege. We have also sunk over 400 boreholes and built weir’s across seasonal rivers to retain water when it rains,” he added.
