Reports even indicated that the government was planning to take DNA samples during the registration process. Others feared wealth declaration. However, none of this was true.

The government acted quickly to assure Kenyans the number was only meant to improve service delivery. President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga led the registration process in different parts of the country.

Many Kenyan heeded the call and visited several areas to register. According to government records, over 10 million Kenyans have registered for the service.

This shows that Kenyans have understood the true meaning of getting a Huduma Namba.

However, all is not smooth. Many Kenyans, especially in Urban areas, are struggling to get the number yet there are willing.

The government has spent a lot of resources on advertising the registration process without providing sufficient registration centers, especially in urban areas.

The urban life is busy and nobody has enough time to move in different estates while searching for a huduma number registration center.

Just like other services, we are looking at a situation where most Kenyans will be scrambling to get the number on the deadline day. The government should also come up with an online portal highlighting the different registration centers.

To avoid the last minute rush, the government should increase the number of registration centers, especially in urban centers.
