A section of women in Eldoret town married to long-distance drivers is in panic mode following reports of a mysterious Sexually transmitted infection (STI) that has been reported in some parts of Migori county.
Some of the women who spoke to Hivisasa fear that they may end up contracting the disease as their husbands travel across the country, including Migori.
It is claimed the disease, nicknamed 'Jakadala' can lead to the death of those infected within a week.
Susan Cherop, a business lady in Eldoret says some women married to long-distance drivers are in fear over the emerging report of the dangerous disease.
“They know their husbands are cheating on them though they have nothing they can do about it. What is now more uncomfortable with them is the Jakadala disease they are fearing," Cherop said.
Mary, a newly married mother of one is bothered by his youthful husband who is a lorry driver.
She says her husband has not been spending time with his family since he travels days and nights and suspects the husband has other girls along the Kisumu-Eldoret route.
“I am praying that he does not engage in any unfaithful acts, he is our breadwinner and I love him so much,” Marry noted.
Already Migori county government has dispatched a number of experts to visit alleged affected areas to asses the situation.
