Ruto was in Migori where he was hosted by area Governor Okoth Obado.

Ecstatic crowds lined up the roadsides to catch a glimpse of the DP together with the governor.

The DP used the visit to call on opposition leaders to join the government and work together as their leader Raila Odinga did through the handshake.

"We want to build one united country without political or tribal bias. Si munaona ata Agwambo amekubali tushirikiane, kama Agwambo amekubali tushirikiane wewe ni nani hapa katikati kutuambia ya kwamba hatuwezi kushirikiana,” Ruto said.

However, all ODM MPs from the region boycotted Ruto’s visit.

This is contrary to a trip by Gideon Moi where several MPs joined him during a visit to Homa Bay.

Governor Obado, who was attending his first public function Governor Obado was attending since he was released from prison on bail, said Migori residents love visitors.

“We are very blessed that the Deputy President has come here to initiate development projects. That is the development we want. As Migori residents we love visitors and love peace as well," Obado said.
